How to create videos for your online shop products

18/06/2015
  • Video marketing is gaining positions at great speed. If earlier we said that a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth much more than that. Making things easy to your potential customers can ease their purchases as well as provide qualitative information about the product and, on many occasions, hitting a nerve.

Many brands or entrepreneurs think that it is difficult to make viral videos, but the reality is that you can implement them successfully without excessive effort or budget.

In ecommerce, a video requires little effort compared with reading long product descriptions. And another important point is that it is also easier to share, both on your own social networks and your users themselves do so on yours, starting to viralize.

There are many brands that are introducing videos as part of their sales strategy, and do it in many ways. At the end, it is about sharing content that may be of interest to customers. Today, we will explain different ways to create videos in your online shop.

    1. Define what you want to explain about your product

Each of the products in your online shop will have its qualities, features, styles and different audiences. Think about what makes it unique and make it as if you were the interested user.

If you have a clothing shop for women, you should put a model in your video that represents your target audience, make her show both front and back views of the product, giving details about the brand, size, style, etc.
  • 2. If the product is complex reinforce it with tutorials

Imagine that you have a household appliance online shop. Besides showing measures, technical characteristics and capabilities of a TV with internet connection, you can accompany a videotutorial that explains how to start step by step.

Today, it is easy to do it with the mobile phone or with a GoPro... no need to have a super video camera. Of course, try to avoid video shaking, otherwise nobody will see anything!

  • Right Channel Radios manufactures truck radios and they decided to make videos to explain their radios and usage tips, giving more value to potential customers being as experts in their field.
  • 3. Upload all videos on Youtube

Creating a Youtube Channel will be a good choice to improve SEO positioning (adding good product descriptions, url of direct link to product´s page in the online shop and keywords), insert videos on the platform of eCommerce easily and ease its virality.

If you have tutorials from the supplier you can create themed lists without having to upload the video on Youtube.

    4. Do not get complicated

If you have no idea of video editing and you think that the shot you made is OK (if it is really true) you can upload the video directly on Youtube, ad a title (better if you include keywords), a description, the url and keywords.

If you think that editing it can be even better, there are tools that can help you out with like VirtualDub, a free and powerful program for editing video for Windows, it has amazing features like compression, video division and the ability to add video tracks. Windows Movie Maker, a tool of free vídeo editing for Windows, with which users can create home movies using a simple drag and drop. This program has features that allow you to add video effects, videotransitions, titles/credits, audio, timeline, and Auto film narration tracks.

For Mac,the well-known iMovie has the advantage of allowing you to make great graphic films, from your own home videos or slideshows, with a considerable ease of use.
Anyway, from time to time it is worth investing in a good promotional video (if the product is worth it, or even in a new season collection) made by a professional. Sure that your friend has a friend who is very good at the audiovisual world.

If you have created a more promotional video and not as descriptive of product, you can upload it on Instagram or Vine and begins to viralize.

We bring you some examples of brands that are already doing it and works:

Burberry leverages to make small videos from exclusive fashion shows:
  • Levis presents us a mini video tutorial on how to fix the series 501 jeans, waht is great so that people can watch it then on the website:
  • We already know GoPro style to showing their brand experience. This video is not a tutorial but its captivating simplicity won a few thousand likes on Instagram.
  • Concerning Vine, a good example is Adidas, that tells a very simple story with this mini video:
