Ubersuggest, an essential keyword research tool

26/09/2019
  • The old keyword research tool, whose name is rather curious, is now renewed. Discover Neil Patel´s Ubersuggest.

  • Whenever we enter the world of SEO, we find that tools are, if not essential, very necessary and quite expensive indeed

But in the case of the keyword research, fortunately there is one of those jewels that it is hard to find: it is called Ubersuggest and it is an essential search tool (besides the fact that it is free).
Today, we present it to you on the occasion of its recent renovation.
  • The origin of Ubersuggest

  • This is one of the best known tools for keywords research. It is based on something as simple and useful as automatic suggestions that the searcher makes as we enter the terms in the box.
  • These recommendations are not random, because they are based on what Google has learned from its users. This is why they are basic in every strategy and keywords research.

Ubersuggest comes to light as an easy and fast solution that all SEO experts applaud. Stop that doing by hand, and it is not necessary to use external extensions or scrapers that usually require proxies to avoid being blocked by Google.
  • How does Ubersuggest work?

  • Although we are going to discuss the radical changes the tool has gone through-which are much deeper than just design-the mechanics have not changed too much

We introduce the term to search, select the country and(originally) we also introduced if we wanted website or mobile results. We clicked the button "Suggest" and the tool did its magic searching for that keyword followed by each letter of the alphabet and number from 0 to 9.

Thanks to this concatenation, we get a huge collection of keywords that we can export in a CSV or simply copy to clipboard and paste them into a spreadsheet.

Taking into account that then we can improve the search by going through keywords, the depth achieved is almost infinite as much as we have to discard many words without sufficient volume of monthly searches.

The appearance of Ubersuggest in its beginnings was this basic, including a captcha:
  • What was the problem? Basically the idea was so good that clones started to appear, which also improved the functionalities.

A good example is Keywordtool.io, which does basically the same thing but introduces more search engines (Youtube,Bing, Amazon, App stores...). And, more interesting, it provides search volume data on search and competition
  • Patel´s effect

  • In 2017, the wildly popular consultant Neil Patel takes over Ubersuggest, he bought and hosted it within its website. This was seen from within the sector with skepticism, as a maneuver to get traffic, links and little else.

But the reality is very different. Months have gone by and the truth is that Patel has not stopped at keeping the tool to catch visitors: he has decided to improve it and the truth is that he is getting it. This is its current aspect:
  • As a letter of introduction we have to say that it is something else. It has a much clearer design and minimizes all the noise from the old version. But let's take a look inside, which is where you can really appreciate the possibilities of this tool.
  • How to use Ubersuggest

  • The first step is the same since the old times. Enter the keyword and country you are carrying out the investigation. Let's see what happens with the keyword "slippers".
  • This is very good, isn´t it? We see a general overview of the main keyword , monthly searches volume, competition in SEO/PPC and a cost per click.

Then, we have a graph of searches that summarizes the seasonality of the searches in the next 12 months (from the date of the search).

Finally, the most important part, which is the basis of the service and that is no other than the keywords report. The list, which is divided into 3 columns, is opened by clicking the button.
  • On the left we can see of the menu. Not all options are available, but we will see that it is more than enough

The central column collects the keywords with their corresponding volume of search, CPC, PD (difficulty of paid positioning) and SD (difficulty of paid positioning).

On the left of each word, there is a check box to mark those we want to export later with the corresponding button located at the bottom.

Before moving to the last section, I want to emphasize that you can apply filters to searches to avoid distorting those result terms we are not interested in... among other things.

Besides marking negative and positive keywords we can choose the source we want to extract the keywords from, define maximum and minimum volumes, difficulty or cost per click. With this, we have a more easy to use document when it comes to export.
  • Now, let´s see the right side, which is the general view. Here we can check the configuration of the results in the search engine itself, ie who and which URLs are appearing for each keyword
  • And this wonder... how much does it cost?

  • As I already said at the beginning: It is a completely free tool. Unlike other tools for keyword research, with Ubersuggest there are no paid version or options.

Even Google Planner requires us to have an active account and campaigns in progress to have specific data instead of wide range in addition to seasonality. So, Ubersuggest is a great deal.
  • And, what about you, do you dare to use Ubersuggest? Don't you think it is a top tool? We certainly do, and we cannot stop recommending. If you use it, share your thoughts with us
